The tool with the soft bristles sweeps as the machine suctions. After vacuuming, I can walk bare footed on my floors without feeling any grit on my feet. This vacuum is light-weight, so I can easily carry it up and down my stairs. The bag is a lot bigger than it looks. It holds more dirt than I expected. The 5 year motor warranty is nice, too! Most of the vacuums I have bought have a 1 year warranty and seem to die on me right after the first year is over. I know this vacuum seems a bit expensive for it's size, but trust me...it was worth every penny.
